Spider Heels
Did you know that the Daddy Long-Legger is one of the world's most poisonous spiders but it's fangs are too small to bite a human?
Actually it's not true. My husband and I got into a semi-debate about it this evening and went to the trusted internet to answer our question.
Actually, the Daddy Long-Legger which we are accustomed to seeing in these parts isn't even a spider - it's an opilione (otherwise known as a harvestman). Harvestman are arachnids (meaning an 8-legged arthropod) but they are not spiders.
Spiders have two body parts, two fangs and produce silk.
Harvestman have one body part, no fangs and do not product silk.
There is however a spider called a Daddy Long Leg - which does have two body parts, fangs, etc. An interesting evening of learning something new. What I do know is that I still don't like them and that their long legs creep me out.
Lots of stuff this evening - discussion of our water possibly being contaminated by our neighbors, how much our daughter despises stink bugs, planting some raspberry bushes and having my husband instruct my daughter and I on how we should be using a shovel (he was lucky at that moment that we didn't crack him with our shovels), measuring his blood oxygen levels with the new pulse ox reader I bought for him, watching Bizarre Foods - but the spider education was definitely the most thought provoking.
